Rio Vista Volunteer Jim Receives Restored Vehicle Through Community Partnership

For nearly two decades, Jim Czuba has faithfully served as a volunteer at Rio Vista Center, a ministry of Arizona Baptist Children’s Services & Family Ministries (ABCS). Since 2006, Jim has volunteered at food distributions and served families who visit Rio Vista each year.

This fall, Jim’s dedication was recognized in a truly life-changing way. On October 15, 2025, he received a 2019 Honda CR-V through the National Auto Body Council (NABC) Recycled Rides® program. This nationwide initiative brings together insurers, collision repair shops, manufacturers and suppliers to refurbish vehicles and donate them to people in need. Since 2007, the program has given more than 3,500 vehicles valued at over $50 million, many to veterans, military families and community servants like Jim.

How the Gift Came Together

The story began in spring 2023, when a group of Farmers Insurance volunteers served at Rio Vista Center. Inspired by what they saw, they stayed in touch. In spring 2024, they hosted a water bottle drive for Rio Vista and introduced staff to the NABC Recycled Rides® program. The program restores donated vehicles and gives them to people who need reliable transportation.

Rio Vista Center Director, Aaron Norwood immediately thought of Jim and submitted his nomination. The process took over a year and a half. The program needed to verify Jim’s income to ensure he could afford insurance and gas. They also confirmed his military service since recipients must be honorably discharged. At one point, a car was even selected for Jim, but the donation fell through. Aaron continued advocating for Jim until the gift finally came through.

Partners Who Made It Happen

The vehicle was donated by Travelers Insurance. On the day of the presentation, Scott Morton and Candice Stopa from Travelers’ Military Diversity Network spoke about the company’s commitment to giving back.  Gerber Collision & Glass refurbished the car. Technicians volunteered their time and materials to ensure it was in perfect condition. Joe Dexter and Brent Nading represented Gerber Collision & Glass at the presentation. Enterprise also partnered in supporting the event, along with several vendors who contributed to the project.

A Moment of Gratitude and Independence

On October 15, Jim was handed the keys to his fully restored vehicle. After years without a personal car, he now has reliable transportation. This gift gives him independence and allows him to continue serving the community he loves without relying on borrowed transportation.

“Jim has given so much of his time and heart to serving others,” said Aaron Norwood. “Seeing the community come together to bless him in this way was incredible.”

This car donation story shows the power of community. When organizations, volunteers and partners unite, they can transform lives—both for the giver and the receiver.
